In our maiden voyage with Atomica chassis at the WCKC Race 1 we were forced with very limited testing time due to weather conditions. With Sunday morning upon us it was time to put the karts on the track with the new Vega Tire formats implemented by Rotax in North America. Right away our squad of drivers were coming off the track feeling very positive about the feel of the chassis and in particular its ease and drivability. The braking system was also an area of focus that most drivers were very impressed with. We had drivers entered in both the Rotax Junior and Senior categories and took the pole position in both with Marco Kacic in Junior and Kellen Ritter in Senior. In the finals Kacic battled hard with Ellie Musgrave who put up a hard fought battle but Kacic managed to put a little space between them and crossed the line in first giving Atomica its first victory.
In senior both Ritter and Chris Eagles jumped out into the top two positions running strong lap times pulling away from the field. Eagles began to fatigue a little allowing a gap between Ritter but keeping his spot on the second step of the podium bringing Atomica it’s first 1-2 finish.
Meanwhile on the other side of the Atlantic Mario Alfrieder competed in an Austrian X30 event where he entered his Atomica SLS with zero testing. Mario managed to get in one warm up in the morning and then qualified in 8th. From his 8th place spot on the grid Alfrieder ran to the front and captured a victory in the pre-final. Unfortunately in the Final he was knocked out in the first corner by an over ambitious move which forced him to the back. He pressed hard and earned his way up to the 5th.
